View of Maithon dam!! The Maithon Dam is located at Maithon, 48 km from  Dhanbad , in the state of Jharkhand. This dam was  specially designed for flood control  and generates 60,000 kW of electric power. This Dam has been a Source of Electricity and water for a large area, and seems to be accomplishing its job on its own very well till date. Not that there were hurdles, regardless of these huddles, this dam has been able to provide electricity to a large area in Jharkhand and West Bengal. This operation is run by  DVC   [Damodar valley corporation] , which was set up with the intent of promoting and operating the schemes which may cause social and economic uplift in the valley region. The difficult but effective water management by the corporation has turned the devastating river Damodar from a "River of Sorrow" to a "River of opportunities".  Country India Location Dhanbad District ,  Jharkhand T

Mekedaatu - Srirangpatanam

Image
Mekedatu  is a location along Kaveri in  Kanakapura  Taluk. Sangama is the place where  Arkavati  merges with  Kaveri .  From this point, about 3.5 kilometers downstream, the river Kaveri flows through a deep and narrow  gorge . Mekedatu' means 'goat's leap' in  Kannada ). There is also some mythological significance to this place (both Sangama and Mekedatu). As per one version, the goat (meke) that is believed to have leapt across the Kaveri was  Lord Shiva  in disguise. On both rocky precipices of the gorge, one can find strange holes, whose shapes resemble goats' hooves, though several times larger. It is believed that only divine goats could have marked their 'footprints' in such hard rocks. This place is popular among the locals who have religious connection with the kaveri and the sangam of other tributaries. You may find people performing puja on the bank of the river. This is just a place to visit. There is nothing much to do here
