View of Maithon dam!!
The Maithon Dam is located at Maithon, 48 km from Dhanbad, in the state of Jharkhand. This dam was specially designed for flood control and generates 60,000 kW of electric power.
This Dam has been a Source of Electricity and water for a large area, and seems to be accomplishing its job on its own very well till date. Not that there were hurdles, regardless of these huddles, this dam has been able to provide electricity to a large area in Jharkhand and West Bengal.
This operation is run by DVC [Damodar valley corporation], which was set up with the intent of promoting and operating the schemes which may cause social and economic uplift in the valley region. The difficult but effective water management by the corporation has turned the devastating river Damodar from a "River of Sorrow" to a "River of opportunities".

If we travel 6 km ahead of the Dam, we find kalyaneshwari temple (Temple of Godess Kali). The temple of Goddess Kalyaneshwari is believed to fulfill the wishes of childless women.
Sunset View
Sun sets seem to be pleasant and the environment around the dam is mostly full of the local crowd You could find people enjoying with their friends and the loved ones, on the other hand you could find people going on morning-evening walks. People from all around the location come down to the place to spend some time watching the beauty of Maithon Dam (be it sunset or sunrise).
Tourist Attraction :
The Government had permitted boating for the visitors, and see it well utilized specially during the winter season. Maithon Dam stays pretty much occupied during the on season, i.e November end to March. Every year there are lots of people who come out with their friends and family here to have some fun and enjoy their time. The Traffic Queue could extend upto 4-5 km, forcing the local cops to action on it and ban the parking of the vehicles close to the radius of 4-5 kms.
Maithon Power Plant is a coal based thermal power plant, in which the Tata Power company and DVC hold 74:26 stake respectively, is the country's first green field power project under public-private partnership.
- Details of Eastern Regional Power Committee on the Power plant project.
This place has kept developing since 1957 and we hope that this plays a good role in contributing towards the core of Indian development.
