Mullayan Giri

Mullayanagiri is the tallest peak in Karnataka and is famous for the temple perched on the peak. Though the route to Kemmangudi through Mullayanagiri is scenic and beautiful, the roads are narrow and bad. So the trekking vehicle is recommended for travelling up. Private vehicles can also go, however the driver needs to be careful, since the roads are pretty narrow and broken

To the north of Chikmagalur town is the Baba-Budan Range or Chandra Drona Parvatha as it was known in olden times, which has one of the highest mountain peaks between the Himalayas and the Nilgiris.    The loftiest point of the range is Mullaiyanagiri which is 1,926 meters above sea level.   The three large caves here said to have been sanctified by 3 siddhas contain their icons and tombs.

Myth about Kalhatti :
Sage Agastya had prayed here for a very long time in this place. The Veerabhadra temple , situated in front the fall has three stone carvings of elephants at the entry point. Devotees believe that the falling water over these elephants have the healing power to cure diseases. - "Oh yes, I wondered the same when I heard this, Is this possible⁉︎"【ツ】

Well, we couldn't be there, as we were not suffering from any disease back then! 😂
Jokes apart, we had a packed up time frame and due to the unpredictable whether out there, we could not hit this place further and returned from mid-way [ Kept pending for next time ].

This large tank situated at the  eastern base of the Baba-Budan range provides irrigation  facilities to about 1,560 hectares of land. Second biggest lake in Karnataka, it was developed in the 12th century with the objective to maintain and enhance the fertility of the land.

People visit this lake for witnessing the beauty of nature on the Agumbe and Sringeri Hills during sunrise and sunset. This is a nice place to chill out during the evening. You can spend hours with your near and dear ones just by sitting at the bank of the lake and enjoying the sunset. Carry some snacks and water with you as there are very few or no places to eat anything nearby, if you feel hungry.
