Hogenakkal Falls - Tamil Nadu, India

Hogenakkal Falls, Tamil Nadu

Hogenakkal Falls or Hogenakal Falls is a waterfall in South India on the river Kaveri. It is located in the Dharmapuri district of the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The images in the blog are aligned in the similar phase are you travel along the way.

As you can see in the above picture, the water flowing through the upper part of the lake. The routes and directions are impression-ed along with the waterway which will guide you to the main falls. The impressions are all over the place, so do not get worried even if you are traveling alone.

On the way to the main falls, you will find small waterfalls. It is a bit risky place due to the slippery surface, so be careful specially near the edges. The empty area get filled only during the peak season (rainy season), else it remains quite in general.
The local people come here to catch fishes for living and commercial purpose. These fishes are sold in the nearby markets. Probably you should try it out if you are visiting there, you'll like it.
The above image is of dry-season. During the rainy season this area somewhat appears as shown in the last image. check it!! Yes, its the same place which is filled with water.

Boats are round shaped, so that it may be easy to cut the force of the water falling from the falls. Boating in Hogenakkal is allowed during the dry-season as the water falls are not strong enough to disrupt the passage of the boats. This is the main source of income for these boat operators.

The boat rider take around INR 400-1500 for a round as per the duration of the ride and your negotiation skills. So people beware! They can smell a tourist and rip them off with charges. Boat riding within the valley if fun, you can try your hands out on it as well the Boat riders will allow you to do so, if they do not see any risk in it.

Hogenakal Falls is a place where the Integrated Drinking Water Project was proposed by the Tamil Nadu Government. The objective of this project is to provide safe drinking water to the urban and rural areas in Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts (nearby towns).

In order to get inside of the waterfall valley you need to visit this place during the summer season, since the water dries up then, so visitors can go through the valley and enjoy the valley experience.
Accommodation - One or two accommodation lodges are available near the falls. There is a government lodge facility as well, probably I would recommend it and is quite affordable.. ATM facility is not available for up to 50 k.m around the location, so when you go take cash with you else you'll have to travel back in order to withdraw cash. (As per the year 2013)

Caution : Girls should not be traveling alone here. Just in case to avoid any mishaps.

Shocking right!!

This is the Picture taken during the Rainy season (peek season), and boating is not allowed across the valley during this season due to the risk.
